Advanced Manufacturing Technology to Upcycle Plastics Waste

Our Focus

The Seauciel LLC (pronounced like “social”) business is focused on commercialization of our patent-pending process to “upcycle” plastic waste (“upcycling” is geared to produce value-added materials from comingled post-consumer and post-industrial waste).

We plan to use supercritical fluids to combine comingled waste plastics into value-added products.  This new, patent-pending process approach will enable Consumers to truly impact plastics recycling rates-with a goal to eliminate landfilling of plastics waste and capturing new, untapped value.

At scale, the commercialized Seauciel process will enable the Consumer to really see the impact of their recycling involvement.

Plastic Converters and Brand-Owners can get the clean, consistent, recycled material needed to manufacture end-products; while meeting the cost and performance criteria of their demanding applications and exceeding recycled-content goals that will be required to truly make a dent in reducing waste products that go into landfills.


The Opportunity

•Today's infrastructure is inadequate to address sustainability policies

In the U.S., particularly in the case of plastics, we see tremendous increase in disposed plastics going to the landfill each year, see chart below.

 In Ohio, a 2019 study completed by the Ohio EPA and found that the State generates almost 10 million tons of total landfilled waste per year; plastics comprise 1.2 million tons/year of this total.  The study went on to estimate that the value of this potentially recyclable plastics waste, if recovered, would be over $300 million/year. It is well documented that comparable value creation potential exists for all U.S. states, and globally, as well.

The soon-to-be-implemented guidelines of plastics products containing greater than 25% recycled content by 2030 will be a major demand-driver for our technology and products. Numerous discussions with a number of these potential customers shows us that this is a major pain point-finding clean, consistent, sustainable supply of PE and/or PP materials to use for the applications described above-is almost impossible to find.

The Seauciel Concept.

•Incorporate proprietary technologies to create value-added polyblends for Brand-Owners, Plastics Converters, and selected local/regional MRFs
•Convert “non- or minimally-separated” plastics waste, which is then fed to an integrated process which consists of:
1. Cleaning/Sterilizing/Comingled recycled plastic using proprietary technology
         -Removes waste (food, unwanted materials like paper, metal, etc.) and effectively scrubs and “sterilizes” the comingled plastics in the stream
2. Treatment of the comingled plastics waste with supercritical fluid(s)
3. The polymer blend is then further processed and conveyed to a twin-screw “finishing” extruder, where other additives are blended in to provide value-add                  plastic compounds for alternative applications

--Utilizes advanced manufacturing processes for secondary sorting and IIoT methodologies
---Takes the education/training/major separation issues away from the public and municipalities, and
---Does the heavy lifting” regarding re-use of “end of life” reclamation of these plastics materials in the waste stream

Paul Boulier

Paul has extensive experience in building and growing businesses from startups to multi-$B corporations.  He has held senior executive roles in Fortune 500 Companies in General Management, Marketing, Sales, Research & Development, Operations, and Organizational Design & Development.  He has been a solution provider to manufacturers in the plastics industry for over 40 years, working with Brand Owners, OEMs, Fabricators and Converters, and raw material providers to drive results and innovation in the Packaging, Electrical & Electronics, Transportation, Industrial, and Medical markets.  He has successfully led efforts in seven major acquisitions (deal value ranging from $15M to $750M); creating strategy, scouting opportunities, executing deals, and integration.  A strategic Team Leader who stimulates ideas, instills trust, and builds strong Leaders and global teams.

Paul has extensive experience in thermoplastic resins and compounds, thermoset composites, and high-performance adhesive systems and advanced materials (metals, ceramics).  He is the author of three granted patents focused on advanced materials and applications.

As Vice President, Corporate Development, identified M&A options to grow the Corporation's  position in plastics and chemicals.
As Vice President, Technology, Growth, and Commercialization, Paul led New Market/New Product Development, Research, and Licensing programs for $2B global Styrenics Division (Polystyrene, EPS, Engineering Plastics) and directed an international team of 110 professionals.
As General Manager of the Styrenics Division, Paul had full P&L responsibility for this $400M international resin business.

Education
Paul has earned a Master of Science in Plastics Engineering from UMASS Lowell as well as a Bachelor of Science in Chemistry from Worcester Polytechnic Institute.  He has also done advanced study at the Katz Business School, University of Pittsburgh, in multiple business areas, including Development of Global Business Strategy, Decision-Making in complex environments, Corporate Ethics, Global Marketing. 

Volunteerism
Paul volunteers with Mercy Corps, a non-profit organization, where he coaches new business owners on strategy, planning, and achieving EBIT growth.  He also coaches Business Leaders, from startups through established enterprises, through affiliations with the University of Akron's ARCHAngels, and Worcester Polytechnic Institute's Tech Advisors for enterpreneurs.  He has also worked at Case Western Reserve University as an Advisory Board Member for their LIFT (Lightweighting Innovations for Tomorrow) curriculum development as well as their Advanced Films and Smart Packaging programs.
